What is an isolator?  And it's work.

What is an isolator?  And it's work. An isolator is a manual mechanical switch that disconnects a piece of electrical equipment from the system as needed.  Read more about electric switchgear Isolators are usually operated in no-load condition or offline.

What is a Lightning Arrester and how does it work?

It does not have any special system of arc extinguishing.  Isolators are used in electrical sub-stations to disconnect various devices such as transformers from lines under no-load or low load conditions.

Both the isolator and the circuit breaker are basically switches that disconnect a part of the circuit from the power system.  The isolator is an off-loading device whereas a circuit breaker is an on-load device.

This means that the isolator cannot be operated under load where the circuit breaker operates automatically if there is a fault in the system. Therefore, the isolator can be operated only where the circuit is disconnected from the load.  There is no system for extinguishing the isolator arc.

A question may be running through the minds of many ? ???  Isolator cannot be operated while loaded i.e. it has to be operated offload, then why isolator is used ?? As we know, the circuit breaker automatically disconnects the line in any condition (no-load, full load, and faulty).  But we cannot directly see the circuit breaker that tripped or disconnected the line.

Therefore, it is advised not to touch any part of the circuit after tripping or when the line is disconnected.  Good security requires a very good arrangement so that it touches the open state before touching any part of the circuit.

Isolators are used to turn off the charging current of the transmission line in case of disconnection of the equipment from the mainline for the repair of equipment connected to the mainline.

Types of isolators.

Depending on the needs of the system, isolators vary according to the position of the power system. Isolators can be divided into the following sections: opening or closing  Feeling confident working openly and that is the rule.

Because if someone accidentally turns on the main switch, the line operator will have an accident.  Similarly, the line is completely disconnected by the isolator even after the circuit breaker has been operated to fix the fault in the high tension (H.T) line.

Most circuit breakers are remote-controlled so anyone can line up by mistake.  If the isolator is installed on both sides of the circuit breaker,

the isolator can be easily opened and brought out to repair the circuit breaker.  Therefore, for the greater safety of electricians, isolators are installed despite the installation of circuit breakers in the system.
