What is meant by motor (IP).

What is meant by motor (IP).

It is often seen that various electrical appliances have IP ratings or IP values. For example, IP is given on the motor which we can see if we notice. This article will discuss IP in detail.

What does IP mean?

IP is International protection which is also called Ingress protection. It basically shows the safety of different electrical devices.

There are many types of security, but IP primarily provides external security to electrical devices, such as dust, sand, water, etc., to prevent them from entering through the mechanical casing.

Two or three numbers are normally used for IP rating. Below are given 1 for the first number, 2 for the second number, 3 for the third number.

  1. The 1st digit will indicate how much safety from solid matter is paramount.
  2. The second digit will indicate how much protection will be provided from the liquid.
  3. 3rd digit will indicate how much protection will be provided from mechanical impact.

Why is the IP written on the electrical device and motor?

We already know what IP is. Speaking of motors, the safety of motors will come first. We keep the motor in different places and use it. However, different environmental companies use IP for motors considering the safety of that environment motor.

The first digit reveals the protection rating of the solid. Its value is usually 0–6.

The second digit expresses the protection rating of the liquid. Its value ranges from 0–6.

The third digit reveals the protection rating of the mechanical injury. Its value is 0–9 but it will not be more.

In most cases the first and second digits are.

What is meant by more or less value of IP?

In the case of the first digit of IP:

  • 0 means no protection.
  • 1 means that if the size of any material is more than 50mm, it will not be able to penetrate the equipment from outside.
  • 2 means that if the size of any material is more than 12.5 mm, it will not be able to penetrate from outside to inside.
  • 3 means that if the size of a substance is more than 2.5 mm, it cannot penetrate from outside to inside.
  • 4 means, it will protect the size above 1mm.
  • 5 means will provide protection from dust and sand but will not provide complete protection.
  • 6  It will provide complete protection from dust, sand, and dirty places.

In the case of the second digit

  • 0 means safety from any liquid will not be the main one.
  • 1 means that the fluid will not enter the device if it is applied directly on the device from above.
  • 2 means that if you wear a liquid at an angle of 15 degrees from above, safety will be the main thing from it.
  • 3 means, the liquid will not penetrate even if sprayed at 60 degrees.
  • 4 means you spray liquid from any direction, it will not enter.
  • If it is 5 then water z i.e. 7.3 mm pipe will not enter even if water is given.
  • 6 means water is given with a 1.4 mm nozzle, safety will be paramount.
  • 7 If you dive under 1 meter of water, you will be able to do partial security.
  • 8 means submerged under 1 meter of water will make him completely safe. It is mainly for submersible motors.

What do we mean by IP value 68?

The value of IP 6 means it will give the most protection to the device. The first digit: is the latest protection of solids that will provide complete protection from dirty places.

And that is the last value of the protection of the liquid which even if submerged in water, the water will not sink in any way.
